How do I use spot-metering in my camera?

Available on Dynax 4, 40, 5, 60, 7, 9, 505si, 505si super, 404si, 800si, 700si, 600si, 500si, 9xi, 7xi, 5xi, SPxi, 8000i, 7000i, 9000AF.
With Spot Metering, the light passing through the spot circle in viewfinder's focusing screen is the only light used for exposure measurement. The angle of view of the spot circle varies with the lens in use: greater for wide-angle lenses; narrower for telephoto lenses. Therefore, the instruction manual describes it as 2.7% of the viewfinder area. For spot metering, the exposure will be correct when the spot circle is measuring a "middle tone" area. That is, a part of the scene whose brightness is halfway between the brightest and darkest tones and reflects 18% of the light falling on it. Kodak makes a special gray card for the best readings with spot metering. Spot metering is also useful to read the brightest and darkest parts of the subject to learn the range of scene brightness.

Riva 135EX, 140EX, 125 EX: Place the spot circle in the viewfinder on the part of the subject you want to meter. Press halfway down on the shutter button. Both the focus and exposure will be locked. The scene can then be reframed as desired. The camera will return to full auto mode after the picture is taken.
