The scanner is listed as unknown device in the device manager. On every Windows start with the scanner connected, the Windows hardware assistent starts up.
As the scanner does not require a specific Windows driver (Twain driver only) no driver needs to be installed (and searched for) when the Hardware assistant starts up after connecting. For disabling the hardware assistant, which comes up every time, you have to run through the harware assistant by clicking on the “continue” button until “Finish” is displayed. Do NOT let Windows 2000 search for drivers (do not mark the check box to choose a drive e.g. the CD-ROM). Windows will not try to install a driver once this procedure is finished. The scanner itself will be shown as unknown device in the device manager but this is no problem or malfunction.
