What is high-speed flash sync?

Compatible with 3600HS D, 5600HS D, and 5400HS flashes and 600si/700si/800si, 505si/505si super, and Dynax 4, 5, 60, 7, 9, 5D, 7D. With High Speed Flash Sync., the x-sync. is not a limitation. With the shutter speed set above 1/200 sec., the flash fires a short pre-burst of fixed intensity and duration when the shutter-release button is pressed. The camera then uses the 14-segment Honeycomb meter cell to compare the ambient-only meter reading to a reading of the scene with the pre-flash burst. The exposure computer then determines the flash-pulse level which will correctly expose the subject at the set shutter speed and aperture. The flash then begins firing and stabilizes just before the first curtain opens, and stops after the second curtain closes. As the output of HSS "flat" pulse is constant throughout the duration of exposure, its effect on exposure is the same as that of the ambient light. Therefore the shutter speed is as important as the aperture in determining the amount of ambient-flash light that reaches the film. As a result, the flash range will change according to the shutter speed as well as the aperture set. To better understand the concept, you might think of the these flash units as a small video light attached to the camera. Wireless High Speed Sync with Dynax 7, 7D, 60, 5D and 5 using Konica Minolta AF D-Series lenses and 5600HS D and 3600HS D flashes. This combination allows using any shutter speed with the flash set for wireless operation. This more creative placement of the flash. It is important to note that the flash should located not more than 30 degrees off of camera center for the best results.
