It is used not to lose the accuracy of the anti-shake compensation and AF when the telephoto-converter / wide-converter is used. The focal length of recorded information (Exif) is converted to the value which is appropriate to the converter (only on DiMAGE A1/A2).
*The focal length conversion is not operated on DiMAGE 7i/7Hi.
